Broke to Millionaire

Stop wasting your time; instead, let’s talk about the seven things you must quit to go from broke to millionaire. Many people ask me what I do to achieve success, but the truth lies in what I don’t do.

Let's begin;

1. Don't Spend Time with Energy Vampires

Energy vampires are people who drain your energy without giving anything back. I grew up with a friend who only called when he needed something—never to celebrate my wins or support me through tough times. Eventually, I realized this wasn’t the kind of person I needed in my life. So, I stopped responding to his calls and created space for healthier relationships.

Take inventory of your friendships. Ask yourself: Does this person bring positivity into my life? If not, it’s time to part ways. From broke to millionaire, protecting your energy is key. Your environment shapes your reality, so surround yourself with people who uplift you.

2. Don’t Ask for Advice from Unqualified People

Not all advice is good advice. For example, someone at the gym tried to give me workout tips—but their physique didn’t reflect expertise. Why take advice from someone who hasn’t achieved what you aspire to?

This principle applies across the board. If your parents haven’t achieved your dream life, their advice will likely lead you to where they are—not where you want to be. Surround yourself with trusted mentors who have been where you want to go. Success leaves clues, so follow those who’ve achieved what you aspire to achieve.

3. Don’t Blame Others

Early in life, I blamed others for my circumstances—traffic for being late, colleagues for failed deals, etc. But blaming others only strips you of control. When you take responsibility, you regain power.

Think of life like cooking. If a meal doesn’t turn out well, blaming the ingredients won’t help. As the chef, you have control. Similarly, taking ownership of your actions lets you shape your future.

4. Don’t Say Yes to Everything

When I started out, I said yes to every opportunity out of fear of missing out. But spreading myself thin meant I couldn’t excel at anything. Overcommitting leads to poor results and broken trust. Saying no is challenging but essential.

Steve Jobs famously said

As Steve Jobs famously said, “Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is say no.” Focus on opportunities aligned with your long-term goals to stay on track to go from broke to millionaire.

5. Don’t Be a Prisoner to Your Devices

Phones can be productivity killers. One of the young men I mentor admitted that his phone was his biggest distraction, robbing him of hours of focus daily. The solution? Turn off notifications, create a life plan, and replace screen time with meaningful activities.

If you’re stuck scrolling through social media, it’s likely because you don’t have a compelling vision for your life. Schedule exciting goals and activities to pull you away from your phone. Remember, your attention is your most valuable resource. Guard it fiercely.

6. Don’t Just Read—Study

Reading without application is wasted effort. I used to speed through books to check them off my list but never implemented what I learned. Now, I treat books as tools for growth, studying and applying their lessons immediately.

If you’re stuck, focus on books relevant to your next step. Don’t read for the sake of reading—read to grow. That’s how you move from broke to millionaire: through consistent learning and action.

7. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

Comparison is the thief of joy. I used to compare myself to others, feeling inadequate and falling into a cycle of negativity. Then I realized the only person I should compete with is my past self.

Your journey is unique, and comparing your beginning to someone else’s success is unfair. Focus on incremental improvements. Just 1% better every day adds up to significant progress over time. Authenticity is your superpower, so embrace it.

Conclusion

These are the seven things I quit to change my life and go from broke to millionaire. If you want similar results, take this list to heart and implement these changes. Remember, your actions today shape your tomorrow.
